Eat More Bananas For More Sons – Scientists

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Women can influence the gender of their child with what they eat before they conceive, according to new research that lends scientific support to age-old superstitions about pregnancy.

The discovery shows higher calorie intake prior to conception can significantly increase the chances of having a son while women on restricted diets are more likely to produce daughters.

Scientists at Britain's Oxford and Exeter Universities, who studied eating habits of 740 women during their first-time pregnancies, say that their findings seem to back certain traditional links between diet and gender while disproving others.

"We were able to confirm the old wives' tale that eating bananas and so having a high potassium intake was associated with having a boy, as was a high sodium intake," research leader Fiona Mathews, a specialist in mammalian biology at Exeter University, told the Guardian newspaper.

"But the old take about drinking a lot of milk to have a girl doesn't seem to hold up. In fact, more calcium meant they were again more likely to have a boy."

Mathews said the study pointed to a simple technique to influencing the chances of a male birth: Eating a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

"If you want a boy, eat a healthy diet with a high calorie intake, including breakfast," she told New Scientist magazine.

"Of women eating cereals daily, 59 percent had boys, compared with only 43 percent who bore boys in the group eating less than a bowlful per week."

The researchers said that a higher calorie intake prior to conception can increase the chances of having a son from ten to 11 boys in every 20 births, according to the study published in the Proceeding of the Royal Society B.

They said it could explain why male births in richer countries are experiencing a slight reduction.

How To Find Peace & Lasting Happiness

I've been reading and listening to certain 'Eastern themed' works lately. And they have completely changed my outlook on life. Will tell you about them later.

For me, the lessons are so MASSIVE that I consider them the most important things that has and will ever happen to me in 'my' entire life. There's now a level of clarity that puts every thing in their proper perspective.

My motivations, the things I now consider valuable, the things I now hold to matter, the things that can no longer affect me.

Below, I will share with you some of the key concepts that I learnt. And I just hope that this benefits you, even half as much as it has others.

Everything is unstable...

6,000 years ago, we had some very powerful rulers who lived in absolute splendour...and had magnificent empires. Well, they are GONE. With just a handful of dilapidated pyramids and a few artefacts left to show for it.

For all his reported magnificence, today, King Solomon of the Bible barely has any archaeological evidence for his existence.

So looking at 'life' on earth today, what is most notable feature of our physical reality?...IMPERMANENCE.

5 years from now, 30 years from now, 500 years from now - the laptop you are currently using to read this would have been melted into a plastic bottle or a spoon. The clothes you are currently wearing would have been discarded and probably buried deep down in the bowels of the earth.

The house you're in right now would have been knocked down. And your nice, succulent, beautiful body - that means so much to you right now, would have turned into dust. All the things that are now 'yours' will no longer be 'yours'.

Let's face it. You could die today, you could get HIV, you could lose your job, you could be bedridden, your investment could be lost. Anything you consider 'bad' could possibly happen to you at any moment.

For example death is an inescapable certainty. Yet we are constantly in RESISTANCE to the fact that it will happen. We live daily with the background terror of it happening.

Your job is impermanent. Your health is impermanent. Your social status is impermanent. Your body is impermanent. EVERYTHING you know and see is impermanent - this is the absolute nature of

'Suffering' comes from RESISTANCE to this glaring, inevitable & inescapable reality. From trying to make, what by it's very nature IMPERMANENT to be permanent. By trying to make the unstable, stable.

Peace on the other hand arises from a state of ACCEPTANCE. And this acceptance sets you free.

Peace vs Happiness...

Happiness is short-lived and fleeting. And is dependent on unstable 'external' factors. If you buy a pair of shoes today or a Rolls Royce, your happiness jumps up a bit. And a few days down the line it disappears from you like a ghost in the night.

Your team wins the Champions League this year and your happiness goes up. The next year comes around and it's as if last year never happened.

You become like a speck at the mercy of the turbulent waves of the sea.

(Inner) Peace on the other hand is of a deeper dimension. A state of tranquillity and serenity. And is not dependent on anything outside of yourself.

Non-resistance.

This is really BIG. All unhappiness, all discontent, all worry, all 'agitations' come from a state of RESISTANCE to what is. From wanting this moment to be different.

From resisting the isness and the suchness of a situation (The Buddha called this tatata). It is what it is.

Peace comes from the the inner space of: "I don't mind what happens".

An example would be NEPA strikes and takes your light, you go "No wahala". Your house gets burnt to the ground, you go "Cool". Your car gets stolen, you go "OK".

Now, how could the above possibly change anything? Good question. Agitating yourself over the fact that the light is off will not change anything. It will not replace your house or bring back your car either.

It is just like hating someone. St Augustine once said "Resentment is like drinking poison and hoping that the other person will die".

So what should you do instead?

"Stick to the facts ma'am"...(Sherlock Holmes)

NEPA taking the light or your house getting burnt is not a problem...it is a situation. Handling the facts additionally motives your brain to action.

Wishing that what has happened didn't happen creates massive amounts of negativity within you.

You can't change the fact that NEPA has taken the light, but you can turn on the generator or use a hand fan. You can't sorrowfully regret yourself into a new un-burnt house. You can temporarily move your family to a friend's or relative's.

Accepting whatever form the moment takes by not resisting it creates a space between you and the situation.

Jesus even teaches this so many times in the bible but we seem to miss what he truly meant. He said: "If someone slaps you on the cheek, turn to him the other", "Do not resist evil", "Love those who hate you", etc.

Worry and regret are also forms of resistance to the present moment. We regret because we want the moment to be different, and we worry because we are resisting the form the next moment will take. "Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life" said Jesus.

Peace or what we could also call lasting happiness comes from non-resistance and accepting what is.

Court To Hear Al-Mustapha’s Death Sentence Appeal Tomorrow

The Lagos division of the Court of Appeal sitting in Igbosere, Lagos Island, will tomorrow, Monday, hear the appeal filed by Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha, Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, and Lateef Shofolahan, an aide to late business man and the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, MKO Abiola, over a death sentence passed on them by Justice Mojisola Dada.

It would be recalled that Justice Dada of the Lagos High Court had on January 30, 2012 convicted and accordingly sentenced the duo “to death by hanging until they are confirmed dead”.
The appellate court, presided over by Justice C.C Nweze had fixed Monday for the hearing of the appeal, after counsel representing both convicts had applied for a regularisation of their briefs of argument.
Lawyer to both appellants, Joseph Daudu and Olalekan Ojo, moving in terms of their motion paper, had both applied for leave to file their appellants brief of arguments and serve same on the respondent, the Lagos State Government.
Both convicts were arraigned in October 1999, on a four-count charge of “conspiracy and murder of Kudirat Abiola on June 4, 1996 along the Lagos/ Ibadan Expressway”.
In their brief of arguments, the appellants submit that the death sentence passed on them was unwarranted.
The duo further argued that the trial court erred in law when it arrived at the conclusion that they conspired to kill Kudirat on June 4, 1996.
Messrs Al-mustapha and Shofolahan are therefore urging the appellate court to entertain their appeal, set aside the judgement, and discharge and acquit them accordingly.
Mr Al-Mustapha’s appeal was premised on four grounds, while that of Mr Shofolahan was hinged on five grounds.

Faze Opens Up About Tuface's Relationship with Blackface

Faze Opens Up About Tuface's Relationship with Blackface

In an interview with showtime,Faze opened up about Tuface and Blackface:

How do you feel today that 2face is a superstar as well as yourself, but Black Face is yet to hit the mark?

Black Face is also going to be big. Everybody seems to be supporting him financially, and it takes a lot for people to believe in you. Black Face wrote almost all the songs we had in our first album, so, he has potentials. He has management challenges and people that believe in him. We must be frank, we have some junk music in the industry but they sell because they have financial backups to pay for publicity and other things. These days, if you are bringing out an album, it has to be well packaged, it has to generate noise. I’m working on something with him to make sure he bounces back.

Since you know his problem, why didn’t you…?
He’s going to be big. Everybody has his time

But don’t you think it’s getting too late?
Nothing is too late. He just needs a single and I’m working with him on his album because he was involved in my career. I remember when I wanted to go for a singing competition. I was young and scared of the unexpected because there were so many ladies there that could sing well. I didn’t want to involve myself because I noticed judges were usually partial when it comes to ladies.

It was a live performance but Black Face encouraged me to go ahead. He accompanied me to the competition and I won at the end of the day. So, it’s the same spirit that I’m trying to give back to him. Whenever, we sit and write songs together, he writes in a different dimension. I think the only thing he needs to do is take his time and not to be in a hurry.

It appears you are more passionate about Black Face than 2face?
No, it’s not like that. 2Face is already big and Black Face will still grow. Most of the times when he’s down, I sit with him because I know his kind of person. He has talent and he has his fans. What is left is for him to give his fans the right music to listen to and enjoy.
So why didn’t you speak with 2face to lend him a support?
What he needs isn’t financial support. We are working together to bring out the right songs.

What’s 2face doing about it?
I’m sure both of them meet to discuss on their own, you know they are from the same area. I can only speak for myself that whatever I do for Black Face, I’m not helping myself, he’s helping me. I’m still going to do one or two songs with 2face in future. But I’m doing everything to make sure things work out well for Black Face. We are all looking for money to take care of our responsibilities. The highest we can do is work together and make more money. Black Face has been helpful to me even financially so, it’s on both sides.

Why were you and Black Face absent at Tuface’s Dubai wedding?
I was in Dubai but got to the venue very late. I had other functions I was attending to. People saw me because we were together at the club. Black Face has his own reason he didn’t make it.

But you are his friend and you should know better
He must have his reasons.

Maybe, he didn’t have money for the ticket…?
It’s not about the money because tickets don’t cost that much. He must have his own reasons. Tuface had his reasons he didn’t invite him too. After all, when Black Face did his wedding, none of us was there.
