The Rivers state Attorney General and
Commissioner for Justice, Mr Wogu Boms, has revealed his intention to take over
the case involving the majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly,
Mr. Chidi Lloyd.
Mr. Lloyd was today
arraigned before the state high court after the Nigeria Police filed a
six-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder against him.
Lloyed was seen limping on
one leg while he made his way out of the court.
The Rivers State Assembly
erupted in violence recently after five lawmakers tried to impeach the speaker
of the assembly.
Mr. Lloyd was captured in a footage hitting another lawmaker,
Michael Chinda, on the
head with the assembly mace.
He has, however, said he
acted in self-defense.
The application by the
attorney-general was, however, opposed by the prosecution counsel, Donald
De-wigwe.
De-wigwe submitted that the
announcement by the Attorney-General that he would take over the criminal
proceedings was premature and cited legal authorities to support his argument.
